I began my journey in the world of art as a way to relate to my teenage peers and find community. Throughout the myriad ups and downs of young adulthood, artistic expression has been my primary and most fulfilling coping mechanism. In my adult life I have continued to refine my skills through dedicated and consistent practice.
My hope in creating Sweet Hour is to continue to hold space for my dearest passion, as well as to share my passion with the world. My focus is in portraiture, because I am endlessly inspired by the humanity around me everyday. The resilience, beauty, and complexity of the human face will never cease to bring me fresh vision. We all have so much to say and communicate, wordlessly. I feel that charcoal is the most natural medium for me to work in, but hope to continue to expand my horizons in the future. I do also work with both chalk and oil pastel, as well as acrylic paint, although with less frequency lately
“Sweet Hour” as a company name is a loving homage to my late maternal grandmother. She was a mother of seven, dedicated wife, and the best hugger in the world. Instead of using the Lord’s name in vain, she would use “Sweet hour!” as her expletive.
I love the humor of made-up curse words, and I’ve kept this little memory saved for just the right project. This feels like just that project. Nanny, I hope this honors your memory in the best way I can.
